Founded in 2011, the race circles the foot of Mount Kinabalu, a World Heritage site in Sabah, Malaysia. It starts from villages in the western foothills, works around the base of the mountain to its southeastern ridges and finishes in Kundasang village. Runnable stretches mix with steep climbs and technical trail, and afternoon tropical showers are common.

The course

The course tops out at 1,841 m (low point 166 m). 5 climbs of 400 m or more keep coming; the biggest is 915 m around 63–78 km. About 30% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade). The median finish was about 30 h, through one night.
