From Pangururan on Samosir Island, the route climbs through forest and rough ground to Pusuk Buhit (about 1,960 m), then descends with views over Lake Toba. Most of the elevation gain comes in one big ascent from the lakeshore.
The course tops out at 1,958 m (low point 902 m). The main climb comes right from the start: 1,052 m around 0–13 km. About 40% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade). In 2026, 97% of starters finished. The median finish was about 6 h.
