A point-to-point on the Diamond Trail, which links Nara, Osaka and Wakayama, from Taima in Katsuragi along the Kongo-Katsuragi ridge over Nijosan, Yamato-Katsuragisan and Kongosan to Kimi Pass. Known for steep ridgelines and seemingly endless wooden steps; prize money is on offer.
The course tops out at 1,097 m (low point 114 m). There are 3 big climbs: 353 m around 0–2 km; 668 m around 4–12 km; 577 m around 15–19 km. Only about 30% is gentle (under 5% grade); most of it is climbing or descending. The median finish was about 6 h.
