A loop through Colorado's San Juan Mountains that starts and finishes in the mining town of Silverton and links Lake City, Ouray and Telluride. Most of it is above treeline, with Handies Peak as the high point. Runners are largely self-supported between towns and must be ready for afternoon thunderstorms. The race runs clockwise in some years and counterclockwise in others.
