Starting and finishing at the Kiwa B&G Marine Center in Kumano, Mie, the course links a string of Kumano sights: the Kumano Kodo, the Maruyama Senmaida terraced rice fields, the Akagi Castle ruins, Tsuenomine and Nunobiki Falls. It starts before dawn in winter, and the rural scenery and local hospitality are a big part of its appeal.
