Starting and finishing at the Romance no Kamisama ski area in Kijimadaira, Nagano, it circles Kayanotaira with its old-growth beech forest, some trees around 300 years old. The trails are old routes revived and maintained by locals, running through Okushinano's deep woods and along streams.
The course tops out at 1,708 m (low point 479 m). The main climb comes early on: 1,229 m around 4–14 km. Only about 30% is gentle (under 5% grade); most of it is climbing or descending. In 2026, 88% of starters finished. The median finish was about 9 h.
