Starting and finishing at Sun Valley in Shiga Kogen, the heart of Joshinetsu Kogen National Park. The course carries on the 40 km of the former Shiga Kogen Mountain Trail, looping through a plateau of lakes and wetlands via Ichinose, and the altitude keeps it cool even in midsummer.
The course tops out at 1,990 m (low point 1,308 m). There are 2 big climbs: 421 m around 4–6 km; 682 m around 19–31 km. The longest descent drops 663 m around 31 km at about 15% on average. About 30% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade). In 2026, 95% of starters finished. The median finish was about 7 h.
