Starting from the basilica square in Teror, the first half visits the green highlands of Nublo Rural Park, the Tejeda caldera and the villages of Artenara and Tejeda; the second half descends the drier southern face to Maspalomas, showing why the island is called a miniature continent.
The course tops out at 1,750 m (low point 28 m). There are 4 big climbs: 522 m around 0–6 km; 565 m around 9–15 km; 615 m around 22–28 km; 811 m around 36–43 km. About 30% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade). The median finish was about 15 h, through one night.
