Also known as: VMM
It climbs straight from Sapa up Ham Rong; past the high point of around 1,900m, Mount Fansipan and the terraced Muong Hoa valley open up. Runnable descents through Hmong villages lead to the Mount Silverstone climb and the hilltop Topas Ecolodge finish.
The course tops out at 1,896 m (low point 944 m). There are 2 big climbs: 406 m around 0–3 km; 342 m around 12–18 km. Only about 10% is gentle (under 5% grade); most of it is climbing or descending. The median finish was about 6 h.
