A one-way race from the hot-spring town of Uchinomaki in Aso, past rice paddies and grasslands, around the east side of Mt. Neko, and along the southern caldera rim to the finish at Aspecta. The route crosses pastures where grazing cattle may be met.
The course tops out at 1,225 m (low point 443 m). 5 climbs of 400 m or more keep coming; the biggest is 782 m around 95–105 km. About 40% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade). The median finish was about 23 h, through one night.
