The flagship race of an event born in 2007 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, amid the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. It leaves Corso Italia at 11pm and passes the Tre Cime di Lavaredo at sunrise on its loop back to Cortina.
The course tops out at 2,450 m (low point 1,217 m). 5 climbs of 500 m or more keep coming; the biggest is 1,055 m around 34–53 km. About 40% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade). The median finish was about 23 h, through 2 nights.
