A dirt-road course on normally closed forestry roads in the national forest below Mt. Ontake in Otaki, Nagano. From Matsubara Sports Park it makes a big loop toward Nigorigo, returning via Suikoen and the Akadana spur road. The top 100 earn an entry right for the next year's ONTAKE100.
The course tops out at 1,519 m (low point 891 m). There are 2 big climbs: 558 m around 0–22 km; 474 m around 29–40 km. About 50% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade). In 2025, 99% of starters finished. The median finish was about 6 h.
