Set on Shiga Kogen in Nagano, at the heart of Joshinetsu Kogen National Park and a UNESCO Eco Park. The race runs at altitude, so it stays cool even in summer, and the course is known for being runnable rather than technical. It grew out of the Shiga Kogen Mountain Trail, held until 2022.
The course tops out at 2,012 m (low point 845 m). There are 2 big climbs: 325 m around 13–20 km; 1,167 m around 32–42 km. About 40% of the distance is gentle (under 5% grade). The median finish was about 9 h.
