Also known as: JOSHU HOTAKASAN
The 77 km race of the Mt. Hotaka mountain event, including high-mountain ridge sections. Markers about every 1 km show the distance remaining, and the Hotaka ridges look out over the mountains of Gunma, Niigata and Fukushima.
The course tops out at 2,154 m (low point 488 m). There are 3 big climbs: 1,628 m around 0–22 km; 479 m around 33–38 km; 676 m around 57–66 km. Only about 30% is gentle (under 5% grade); most of it is climbing or descending. In 2025, 90% of starters finished. The median finish was about 17 h, through one night.
